Learn to fly at Cotswold Airport Kemble

The first time I went to Amsterdam, it was straight after spending a few days in Paris and Amsterdam was like a breath of fresh air after a more chaotic, though beautiful, city such as Paris.

Amsterdam was contained and chilled out, people were relaxed and travelled by bicycle and the canals were so romantically beautiful. We didn’t realise the bridges over the canals were all the same so we ventured for a stroll taking one of the bridges as a reference point only to find we were lost. That’s how we noticed there were many similar bridges, thankfully we had a map because 15 years ago we didn’t have an iphone or a blackberry at hand to find our way back. Should you find yourself in a similar situation today, you can always go online and find all the information you need to make your way back.

Amsterdam city centre dates back to the 17th century and is home to a vast array of stunning architectural time pieces. Made up of 90 islands and linked by 400 bridges the best way to view the centre of Amsterdam is either on foot or by utilizing the bicycle friendly environment and cycling.
Probably most famous for it’s tolerance towards both drugs and prostitution Amsterdam tends to be perceived as a non family tourist destination. This could not be further from the truth. Away from the red light district and the coffee shops (bars and cafes that sell Cannabis) there are a whole host of interesting and cultural stimulating places of interest from Anne Franks house to the Van Gogh museum and the botanical gardens, seen by many as the jewel of the city.
From the Dam in the centre to the Leidsplien in the southwest, Amsterdam is awash with shops, bars and restaurants catering to all tastes and budgets. Voted European city of culture in 1987 Amsterdam is a destination that must not be missed.
A great site for general information on Holland is traveltoholland.org where you can even find google maps incorporated and plenty of useful information about restaurants, hotels, museums and places to see.
