Getting stranded in an airport isn’t always a bad experience—at least, some airports were designed with your comfort in mind. Whether you’ve planned a long layover or your flight got cancelled, the time you might have to spend in an airport can be less stressful, depending on where you go.

Macdonald-Cartier International Airport in Ottawa, Canada is an airport whose accommodations are often overlooked. It may be considered one of the best airports to sleep in because of  its large sofas and chairs on both sides of the security checkpoint, as well as a casino across the street. The comfortable chairs are a great place to take a rest. As  long as you’re prepared for cold weather and a potentially cold airport, you can spend the night here with no problems.

Rio de Janeiro-Galeão International Airport in Brazil is a great airport in the region of South America. Security is somewhat sparse, so be careful if you are spending the night here. You’ll want to locate yourself near one of the security booths for comfort ad peace of mind. This airport in Rio is clean, but relatively small, so you’ll have to really search for a place to sleep.

On the other side of the Atlantic Ocean in The Netherlands, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol also has some comfortable places to sleep, with reclining chairs and adjustable armrests and footrests. As for its security, the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is well-secured with a constant patrol. This means that security may wake you up if you’re in the same place for more than a few hours to be sure that you are a ticket holder, but it’s a small price to pay considering you’ll be sleeping in an airport for free.

Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, Turkey is a recently renovated airport. With cafes with comfortable couches, many places to sleep no matter what side of the security checkpoint you are on, and shops, this is easily one of the best airports to spend your time in. It is clean and security is not an issue, so you can get a good nap in before your next flight. The airport’s off-peak hours are between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., but there is also plenty of space to sleep away from the hustle and bustle of travelers passing through Ataturk International during the day.

Singapore Airlines is boasted as one of the most comfortable airlines in the world, so it is only natural that Singapore Changi Airport is one of the best airports to sleep in. The airport has 6 open-air gardens and two 24-hour lounges for passengers, making it a relaxing place to stay. There is a shopping mall in the middle of the airport, and resting areas are located around the shopping mall.

Planning a trip with long layovers can save you money, but a longer trip doesn’t have to mean a sleepless night. There are several airports worldwide that are comfortable and secure to spend the night in. Keep the best airports to sleep in in mind and try to plan your next trip accordingly.

There are many steps to creating a successful travel blog, and some steps are more difficult than others. Personality is key in becoming a successful travel blogger, and your personality needs to come out through your online blog. So, the first step to creating a successful travel blog is to establish your unique persona. There are some ways to give your blog some life, the first way being using your real name on posts, throughout your website, and on social networking sites. This way, your readers are more likely to connect with you and your blog.

After establishing your blog persona, you should make sure it’s easy for readers to contact you by making your contact information easily available throughout your site. It is also helpful to give people different ways to contact you, whether it be through e-mail, Facebook, or Twitter, social networking sites keep people involved in your day. If you plan on being unable to access your computer or the internet for a period of time, let your readers know! You can use the WordPress plugin WP-ContactForm or an out of office reply on your travel email account as an auto responder to keep people from feeling ignored when they don’t get a timely response.

It is good to post unique pictures and/or videos to add variety to your posts once in a while. Pictures and videos are a good way of making your blog more interesting and colorful among the many written posts. Including yourself in some of the pictures, or voicing over videos can add a more personal touch on your posts. You can also consider breaking up a longer post into a mini-series of posts over a period of a few days.

In addition to pictures and videos, personal stories are important for relating to audiences, as long as your writing is understandable and keeps people interested. It is easy for travel blogs to become endless rants with random thoughts, which causes readers to lose interest. By by keeping your posts short and to the point and following the “upside down pyramid”, you can avoid confusion and keep readers.

Consistency is a key to travel blogging. By keeping yourself on a consistent posting schedule, you can ensure a successful travel blog in the long run. Just because you set a deadline for yourself never means you should force your writing. Instead, jot down ideas as they come to you and your posts will come together. Come up with a few different aspects of the same trip to generate more interesting content for your blog and to provide different points of view. A variety in blog posts and different takes on the same trip will give your readers a more well-rounded account of your experiences.

Communication and consistency are some keys to being a successful travel blogger. Blogging will keep you busy, and it is okay to take a break once in a while. Keep your readers informed of your absence and let them know that you will be coming back with new, interesting content after a short break. As long as you are consistent with interesting posts and maintain open communication, your readers will be consistent as well.

As a backpacker, the norm of packing is to pack light.  But even backpackers can over pack like if they were rewarded by the pound.  And even when you pack light, as your trip progresses, it is sometimes difficult to manage keeping that load as light as possible.  So, here are some of the benefits on keeping that light load.

1.  You’ll have better control of what you have (inventory) when you move from place to place or are constantly on the move.

2.  It’s easier to carry for longer distances and lets you maintain an agile pace without draining your energy.

3.  It is less likely you will hit someone with your backpack as you turn around on crowded spaces or run like crazy to catch that train or flight.

4.  It’s so much easier to pack your stuff back or find something in your backpack on a dark hostel room or sleeper train compartment at 4am, without waking up everyone.

5.  You can take it as a carry-on on your flights.  This takes away the worries about lost luggage or waste of time at baggage claim.

6.  It is easier (and cheaper) to store on train station lockers.

7.  You will have extra space for souvenirs.

8.  You pack only the essentials.  When you over pack, you usually take stuff that you will never use. So, why carry all that dead load?

9.  You’ll get compliment from other backpackers (who carry a lot of dead load) on how light you are traveling.

10.  Your back and feet will appreciate it!!
