I took CC to Durham for one of my students so he could pick up a new car. His sister came too and she flew back with me. I gave her the take off, and immediately I could see she is a natural pilot. She was very gentle and positive with the controls. However within 15 minutes we were in cloud. This trip the autopilot decided not to work. It does this when the slightly faulty turn co-ordinater does not get up to speed. So I decided to show “Sis” as her friends call her, how to fly on instruments. I showed her the scan, and said that the more gently she flew, the easier it would be. Within a short time she was handling it very well, and I could let her get on with it. While she was flying a radar heading while we were flying through Birmingham I took this video on my iphone.
She is flying like a well seasoned pilot, in full IMC conditions, and as you can tell it was quite turbulent. Look how well she is keeping her height and heading. Well done. She said she loved it. I hope she takes up flying, it will be a pleasure to teach her.
