Learn to fly at Cotswold Airport Kemble

Before you start to learn to fly, it is a good idea to have a trial lesson to see if you really enjoy it.  Sometimes dreams and reality do not match.  When you fly, you can take up to 2 passengers with you who can enjoy the ride, and perhaps be amused at watching you trying to grasp controlling an aircraft in three dimensions.

In fact in many ways learning to fly is easier than learning to drive a car. If you have good co-ordination it is easier than if you don’t, but Chris Puddy our CFI has a lot of experience and patience and can usually find a way of teaching the most difficult students the art of flying.  So come and give it a go.

At the beginning of the trial lesson you will be shown the basics of how and why and aircraft flys, and how the controls work. This is done on the ground and often over a cup of coffee in the AV8 Restaurant which overlooks the airfield.  Then you will be shown the aircraft, and shown briefly all the controls so you will have a better idea of what to expect once you get airbourne.  Then it is time to actually get flying.  You can either book one hour or a half hour lesson and if you take up flying, this will count towards your training.

Once you get back on the ground, then you may have lots of questions to ask, and either Chris or Stuart who looks after things on the ground will give you all the answers you need.  If you want a lot of detail about what is needed to get your licence you can find it all from the CAA website.

Click on this link to be taken to the order page, and you can pay for your flight online.  You will then need to contact us to arrange times and dates to suit yourself.

One thing to mention, in the early stages of learning to fly it is necessary to have a horizon so you can see the attitude and bank of the aircraft.  This horizon can be the actual horizon, or it could be the top of a layer of cloud, but really it is nicer and more beneficial to go flying in the early stages when the weather is nice.  If the weather is not good enough, then it is best to re-book for a more suitable date.

If you want to give someone an unusual present, then buy a trial lesson for them and we will look after them.  We also have our unique “Fly ‘n Dine” arrangement with the AV8 Restaurant which serves delicious food. You and your friend arrive for morning coffee followed by a brief with your instructor, and then go off flying for half an hour or an hour. After that you come back and enjoy a beautiful 2 course lunch and watch the flying activity from the terrace if the weather is good enough.
